Paintball guns are a required piece of equipment for playing
paintball. The gun, or marker, is the mechanism that projects
the paintball. Paintballs are gelatin balls filled with polyethylene
glycol, dye, and other non-toxic, water-soluable substances.
Paintball guns are comprised of three main parts: markers, hoppers/loaders,
and propellant. The propellant forces the ball through the marker
using carbon dioxide or high pressure air (nitrogen). The hopper
holds many paintballs at once and the loader drops them down into
the marker, one at a time.
Paintball guns cost anywhere from $100 on up, depending on the
level of technology you want to get in to. Nitrogen as a propellant
is generally preferred over carbon monoxide.
